Resolution demanding the lifting ban on Youtube

The treasury parts of the National Assembly (NA) on Tuesday restricted a resolution demanding the lifting of the boycott on Youtube while an alternate resolution, looking for a change and regulation in the educational module of religious theological colleges, was passed in the House. Both resolutions were tabled by Pakistan People's Party MNAs from the opposition.

MNA Shazia Marri submitted the resolution looking to lift the forced Youtube boycott. She was of the view that Youtube was open through substitute sites and there was no reason for supporting the boycott. The resolution was opposed by the treasury parts of the House while NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq postponed the matter.
Syed Naveed Qamar said, "We have agreed with the government to adjust the resolution and move it next week."Shazia Marri said that around one billion people were utilizing Youtube over the world and scholars were also utilizing it for their examination work.

Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid said that the issue of Youtube was in the high court and a choice might be taken after the verdict of the court. Dr Arif Alvi also supported the thought of lifting the boycott on the site in the wake of taking defensive measures to evacuate offensive material from it.
