IT Pakistan: - Ufone observed the World Telecommunication Day,
celebrating the recent launch of 3G in Pakistan, which is in line with this
year's theme of “Broadband networks for sustainable development.”
This year's event highlighted the importance
and spread of high- speed internet throughout the world relative to the current
scenario in Pakistan. Ufone, realizing this importance, celebrated this event
with full zeal and enthusiasm, highlighting the introduction of 3G and reaching
implications for the country.
"High Speed affordable 3G broadband
connectivity to the Internet is essential for the sustainable development of
the country and can offer widely recognized economic and social benefits,"
said Asher Yaqub Khan, CCO at Ufone.
“Information and Communication Technologies
(ICT) have gained immense importance worldwide; with the introduction of high
-speed broadband internet importance has increased four-fold," he added.
"The introduction of 3G mobile broadband in Pakistan has unleashed new
horizons for the country as it enters into a new digital era. But, what you
need to keep in mind is that the direction should be towards sustainable
development country. "
The importance of this technology can be
deciphered from the fact that by 2018, 85 % of the world's population will have
access to the internet through technology 3G. The sustainable use of this
technology may have broad benefits. If used correctly, has the potential to
boost the growth and development of the country.
Studies have shown that a 10% increase in
penetration can increase the GDP by 1 %. Moreover, the increase in broadband
speed (double) can increase GDP by 0.3 %.
Khan stressed the importance of sustainable
development, said, “The 3G mobile broadband technology and sustainable
development have a long relationship, whereby the amazing results can be
achieved without having a negative impact.”
He added: “April 23 was a historic day for
Pakistan. We again made history as the country entered a new era of
digital communications.
This technology will open new doors for the development of my compatriots in
the areas of mobile commerce, health, education, agriculture and employment to
hundreds and thousands of people. "
