TELECON 7th, 2014 concluded here today with regulators and experts
that determine the data revolution related community and digitized ecosystem
will define telecom sector in Pakistan.
The theme of the conference was " Changing Dynamics of Telecom and the information and communication technology in Pakistan."
Organized
annually by the Shamrock Conferences International, to highlight and discuss
the critical issues and opportunities related to the telecommunications sector,
including the development of information and communication technologies and
their impact on the economy, the Conference was well attended affair with the
participation of the cross-section of companies and organizations.
In
his message to the organizers, the Minister Anusha Rehman said, "The
priority of our government is to use the next generation of information
services and communication technologies, particularly mobile broadband
ecosystem to accelerate the digitization to allow the expansion of
socio-economic development of the knowledge -based economy and promote economic
growth. "
Chairman
PTA Syed Shah Ismail in his speech reiterated the government's commitment to
the promotion and development of the telecommunications sector investors and
consumer -friendly policies. He said: "We expect strong demand for 3G as
operators start rolling out services and consumers are excited about the new
technologies, it joins a community of people, the entire experience was as a
data revolution. "
Mr.
Mudassar Hussain, Member Telecom, Ministry of MPO stressed that the policy
front , the government has invited industry and government consultants to be
partners in their decision-making; and in this context, a revision of the
telecommunications policy on the horizon.
In
his introductory remarks, Menin Rodrigues, convener TELECON 2014 said:
"The telecommunications sector has played very well and when the
Department of IT & Telecom and PTA are doing all the right things for this
country and its citizens, some issues of level playing field for stakeholders and
dissemination of gray telephony persist. "
In
the opening session on " regulatory", a prominent industry
personalities Mr. Zouhair Khaliq , now a telecommunications consultant in the
UK praised the growth of telecommunications in the country, and how it evolved
from a struggling industry for its phenomenal growth today. He reiterated that
the policy framework needs to be a constructive dialogue with industry to
remain relevant in the future, including rationalization of taxes.
The
initiator of the Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan (ISPAK) Mr.
Wahaj us Siraj said the government and regulators must create a balanced
approach to its negotiations with interested parties. He commended the PTA for
the transparent spectrum auction process. Give your review telecom industry as
an economic Mr. Ali Salman, Managing Director, Institute for Research on MET
(PRIME) informed the participants that faulty policies and lack of control as a
result of non-compliance with economic principles and parameters, and therefore,
gray trafficking has increased.
At a
meeting on the theme "Technology " Mr. Omer Bin Tariq, Director of
Internet & Devices, Telenor Pakistan said, to foster a society for all
Internet will shape the future of progressive Pakistan; and socio- economic
impact of 3G will improve education, health, trade and business. "Good
rollout plan to foster economic growth and GDP," he added. Pan Veqar ul
Islam, president of Touchpoint Group pointed out that cell phone really is the
ultimate universal instrument approach; given the power to do things like never
before, bridging the digital divide. Chief Operating Officer Supernet Mr. Hamid
Nawaz expands on the theme allow satellite backhaul, said that his company is
ready to support 3G.
Mr.
Naeem Zamindar, CEO Wateen Telecom in eloquent style of speaking of broadband
for economic growth; pointed out that technology and social transformation are
at hand and access to data will revolutionize our world in leaps and bounds.
Providing optical connection Hec institutions across Pakistan, the company gave
every citizen the ability to access broadband. Interesting presentation on E -
waste was made by Mr. Adnan Shahid, Chief Ideas Officer Ideogeny that attacks
highlighted the sorry state of affairs in the spread of electronic waste, and
how this practice became environmental and health risks for the people of
Pakistan.
Conclusion
of negotiations on the "social policy " was chaired by Prof. Dr.
Sajjad Mohsin, Dean, Faculty of Information Science and Technology, COMSATS,
Mr. Faisal Javed Khan, Head of Electronic Media Operations PTI talking about
how political parties successfully to mobilize young people to vote for change
through social media communication.
